Locksmith Scammers

There has been a lot on social media lately about locksmith scammers. I suppose I’d like to share my insight of what a scammer does. They are usually not skilled in non-destructive bypassing of locksets and offer a cheap service call ($45), however, once on-site, keep adding charges to your invoice. “Are you locksmith licenced?” While it’s technically called a ‘private security licence,’ the answer should always be “Yes.” If you are advising people on security, especially opening homes, you should have a private security licence. I’m still surprised when customers ask why do they need to provide proof of ownership? Well, it’s what separates us from the criminals by having authority to bypass and enter a car or home.

The main thing that pisses people off is not being upfront with your prices. I try to be upfront with what the job entails and why you’re paying a market relevant price. End of the day, Use a licenced locksmith.

What keeps me honest is the fear of Tracy Grimshaw…
